Timber Species Identifier

Use TSI to accurately identify timber species from LiDAR data

The subject is an old growth harvest block with an area of 13.6 ha. The elevation range is from 219m to 386m and TSI segmented 4,979 trees. The LiDAR was flown October 2010 and the block was harvested that December.

Above: The block is predominantly douglas fir with secondary species of western hemlock, western red cedar, amabilis fir (balsam), and big leaf maple

Above: 1,748 trees out of 4,979 total record a volume above 2 cubic meters each. TSI calculates 3,349 trees with a volume over 1 m3.

Above: Each tree is colour-coded per its primary product. In this example, 1,215 trees yielded saw logs as their primary product.
